Review of 2017: A CEO’s Perspective

January 2018 marks the first year anniversary of eJIGSAW, so I thought I’d write a quick review of 2017, what we’ve learned and what the future holds.

To kickstart this review of 2017, first of all, I can’t believe how incredibly quickly 2017 has gone. We have gone from launching the eJIGSAW business as a ‘startup’ (granted, with the infrastructure of a much larger business behind it to get it going) in January, to being a fully-established, multi-award winning digital and creative agency in just 11 months.

Back in January, myself and Neil (who at the time was Head of Digitial / PR for Jigsaw Medical) had a chat about where our external development and agency usage was and what the spend got us. In no time at all, it was clear that we had our own vision and could bring that vision to life for both the group companies within Jigsaw, but also for external clients.

As soon as we started eJIGSAW we set about getting to work. The first job was to get the right people on board for the journey ahead. If you have read anything I have written before on my personal blog, you will have seen how passionate I am about people being the fundamental and single most important factor to a successful business. Your people look after your customers and your customers deal with your people. There is also no point in hiring experts who know more than you do, and then telling them what to do, we simply don’t work like that.

At eJIGSAW and the entirety of the Jigsaw Group, we have created a culture and atmosphere which is unique, not only did we need technical experts at the top of their game, we needed people who could also fit into the culture we had already developed. I won’t say it was easy, as it certainly wasn’t, but I am very pleased to say that as I type this, we have an incredible team of people who are focused, energetic, and technically exceptional, with 2 more joining at the start of January, and I would challenge any agency to match us in either the technical or cultural makeup the team have developed (no pun intended) at eJIGSAW.

Testament to the team and their incredible efforts in our first year, despite not launching our own website until August, we managed to work with one of the largest independent travel company’s in the UK, media and news outlets, software providers, international dental organisations, event companies, record labels and have developed the brands, identities and websites for some of the hottest new music artists in the UK,  and some of the most exciting new (and existing) company’s.

We were also massively excited to have been chosen by the team at Big Change and the Virgin Strive Challenge, to develop them a brand new website from scratch, with hand-built interactive maps and a secure cloud application to underpin front-end functionality – which we’re delighted to say has just gone live in time for Christmas and the New Year!

As well as being recognised by one of the industry’s most respected website design and development awards, the CSS Design Awards, with a ‘Special Kudos’ for our own eJIGSAW website, we were also very proud to have won ‘Digital Startup of the Year‘ at the UK’s Digital Entrepreneur Awards 2017.

The Future

I am pleased to say we now have a team of over 10 incredible people who are looking after the needs of our clients both big and small, and we have some very exciting projects lined up for 2018 already (which will be revealed very soon), and we can’t help to kick off in January.

To support our continued growth, we are also welcoming 2 new members to the team in January alone (who had their first gathering with the team at our recent Christmas Party) and we are excited to hit the ground running in just a couple of weeks. Samara Stewart will be joining us a Digital Marketing Executive and Rob Pomfret will be joining us a Design Intern!

In Summary

All that is left for me to say is..thank you for taking the time to read this and if you are one of our many valued customers, thank you so much for your support, and if you are just interested, be sure to stay tuned to our website and social media as 2018 is going to be an absolutely cracking year for eJIGSAW!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
